I hope you are doing well. First I would recommend you to check for the latest updates using automatic updates. If there are new codec s or required codec s it will be downloaded and installed by the automatic update feature of windows vista.
To access windows updates click on start, click on control panel and then click on windows updates. You will see all the important and required updates.

I am having similar problems as Mike4UT. For some of my older AVI files, only the audio portion can be heard using Windows Media Version 11, and not the video. The link you suggested says that the version of Windows Media Player Codecs can be installed only
on Win 98, Millennium and Win 2000, and does not include Win Vista. Where can I find the source for Win Vista codecs to run older AVI files.

Please try updating the computer to the letest updates from windows updates. If there are any new updates download and install them. Please check other third party websites for any codec packages, download and install the codec packages.
I have installed all of the windows updates and am current as of today. I have tried to install the K-Lite Codec Pack Mega including update to version 5.0.3 but this has not fixed my missing video to my AVI file. Can you please give me suggestions as to which
third party codec packages I should try.
the only option I have found that worked for me.
I run VMware in Win7Ultimate, and a real and licensed. copy of XP in a TRUE virtual window, not that pretend extremely limited virtual drive included in Ultimate 7 that does not work for 90 of the programs or games OR VIDEOS, and simply drag the video
into the VMware XP window, and of course it works just fine there. Then I convert it to Divx sorry MS, wmv is not a codex, but more like a pixelation maker and barely good enough for kids converting off their tiny cell phone to post on youtube, and then
drag the divx converted back into my Win7 window and I have a working video.
A pain in the butt, but at least it is a viable option that works.
I can confirm that the latest K-Lite MEGA codec works. NOTE: If you do a default setup, you have to scroll through the installed settings and add the Indeo 5 manually.
I just had this problem I m on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, after a few minutes of websurfing I saw this. Then I found another page the last download on the very bottom is the IV50 codec installer I ran it and my video
loads perfectly now, try it for your self.
Windows 7 32-bit Fix - Should work in Vista too
In windows 7 download the codec pack from here:
go to command prompt and Run as administrator if you don t run as admin you will get an error.
in command prompt type: regsvr32 ir50_32.dll

This worked like a charm. I had toyed with this problem on and off since first using Vista. It is fantastic to be able to again access some long unplayable and sorely missed family videos. Thank you Brent89 for a wonderful and intelligent fix that actually
I converted the problem file to a WMV file using the maximum resolution and size possible on the site using the abovementioned site and then back to an AVI file.
It worked as an WMV file and then again as an AVI file.
I have wasted time and money downloading programmes which claim to convert all video formats from one to another only to find that they do not. I also had a virus warning on one Free Download site which set my Antivirus software into a panic. I have
also had sites that calim to be free to download but cost money to activate etc, very frustrating.
This site is web based and requires no downloading of software and so presumably no viruses. You have to queue whilst other people s files are converted but if it is a precious video then it is worth it, I think.
So this is my long winded solution. I do not work for this site nor do I have any links with this organisiation.

Yeah your rite,, iv been looking for a solution for ages just run as admin and run as windows xp sp2 works 100 with media player classic or even VLC

Thank you for sharing this link for the IV50 codec. It works on my Vista laptop.. I have wasted hours searching for codec packs, converters etc and researching through various forums etc. I even bought software that claimed to be able to solve this problem
but with no avail. Both Vista and Window 7 appear to have multiple intrinsic faults - my next PC/laptop will be a Mac.
I think this problem has arisen for all of because of a change in Windows Media Player which for reasons only known to Microsoft would not play these older Movie Clips. Whilst I understand changes need to be made sometimes or security reason, surely a
solution could have been offered bt Microsoft even if it was a convertion to a more recent Movie format There will be people out there who do not persevere in trying to solve this problem and lose much loved family moments

find iv5setup.exe down the list
delete ir50_32dll from your computer by doing a search on Vista and 7

Indeo Iv5 was the best AVI codec I could find for quality and size of file. As a result I ve got lots of video files from the past 10-15 years in my archives. Home video files of great personal value. To use them in the future I ll have to keep a machine
running Windows XP or even Windows ME both of which, of course, Microsoft will cease to update and support after a while if they haven t already done so. Will I have to copy them to another codec with the associated loss of quality. So which codecs will
be next to disappear. How can we trust Microsoft to continue to support the codecs we use now. Had we all better go back to taking home movies on Super 8mm film. Expensive stuff film. And I doubt if anybody is manufacturing new cameras and projectors.
my videos will not work. when i try to play my videos that i dowen loded from my camera to my lap top, it says like, it says windo media player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used
